"Bring Your Children to Work" Day
Bring Your Children to Work Day ("Kids Day") and the Kansas City Corporate Challenge ("KCCC") are just two examples. On 2 May 2017, nine children (ages eight to 21) of BKC employees joined parents in the office for Kids Day, a structured program offering hands-on experience with technical, financial, and strategic topics in a team-centered, problem-solving environment. From April through June, BKC participates annually in KCCC – an Olympic-type event that involves 220 companies and over 30,000 individual participants. Promoting employee fitness and recreation with the Kansas City business community, KCCC also donates a portion of all registration fees to local charitable organizations.
"The 'extended stakeholder' model is important to us at BKC and fits well with BEUMER Group core values," explains Tony Barr, President of BKC. "Our families, for example, have a legitimate interest in and influence on the work we do. So also the communities in which we live and work. Kids Day and KCCC are unique in that they allow us to work together as a team outside the normal framework of our business. We intentionally seek opportunities to look up and to look out, beyond the borders of our business and beyond ourselves. It's very rewarding – and a lot of fun, also."
